Complexes: Barriers to Communication

BFJ President, Ron Benham will explore how complexes undermine our ability to say what we need to say. For an example the role of complexes that apparently inhibited the advocacy and prudent action of crew members of a C-5 Galaxy that crashed in 2006 will be explored. The question of saying something (simple) or crashing was the issue at hand for this crew. The crew crashed without saying what needed to be said, while every crew member knew exactly what was needed in this situation. Leaving a life and death decision/reaction to a complex is certain to result in folly. We will explore how it is that it is easy to fall under the spell of a deadly complex.

Friday evening discussion questions

1.    Take the roles of the Drama Triangle: Persecutor; Victim, Rescuer and discuss how each of these roles may be driven by complexes or archetypes.

2.    What might be a position the ego could take to free itself from this dynamic?. Zoom link
