Pandora’s Box – Myth, Memory and Memoir

The myth of Pandora is a story of Self reclamation. When the First Woman of Greece opens the box and releases the evils, archetypally, one could say she finally lets the steam escape from a painful part of her life.  Perhaps she’s looked into the dissolution of a marriage or investigated the origins of her birth, showing her, maybe for the first time, her own inner strength and courage. Writing a memoir, a slice of one’s life – even if it’s just for personal consumption – can help us do the same. By converting emotions and images into words, we start to organize memories, releasing ourselves from stale perspectives and fostering personal growth. Zoom link

Martha Peacock will share stories, personal associations, and dreams that have helped her write her memoir. Using the myth of Pandora as an entry point, we will be invited to peer into one of our unopened boxes (we all have them) to see what mystery resides inside.  Have paper and pen ready to begin to reclaim your story by translating then to now.

Martha received her master’s and doctorate degrees in Mythological Studies from Pacifica Graduate Institute and a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology form the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Her educational training lends itself well to digging down deep into the perennial root of unquestioned thoughts and behaviors in order to unearth fresh perspectives.
